How much should a parrot eat
A bird’s portion depends on its weight: a budgie needs a teaspoon, an African grey six times more. Choose the bird and enter its weight.
Use kitchen scales. If you do not know, leave it — we use a typical adult weight.
Result
- Dry food5.5–7.5 gPellets are better than seeds alone. Measure in the morning, remove leftovers in the evening.
- Vegetables and greens — share of diet20–30 %
Worth knowing
- On seeds alone a parrot gets fat and no vitamin A: the liver suffers. Move to pellets gradually.
- Vegetables and greens every day: broccoli, carrot, spinach, sweet pepper. A little fruit.
- Deadly: avocado, chocolate, coffee, alcohol, salty food, onion and garlic.
- Fumes from an overheated non-stick pan kill a bird within minutes. Keep the cage out of the kitchen.
