Be aware. Хрупкие кости, вывих коленной чашечки. Шерсть без ухода сваливается. Характер терьера — воспитывать надо.

Temperament

Йорк — терьер, а не игрушка: бойкий, шумный, любопытный, с охотничьим азартом. Привязан к хозяину, ревнив, склонен облаивать всё подряд, если это не пресечь в щенячестве. Обучается хорошо, но требует последовательности — маленькой собаке слишком часто прощают то, чего не простили бы крупной.

Care

Шерсть без подшёрстка, по структуре ближе к человеческому волосу: не линяет, но сваливается — расчёсывать ежедневно, стричь раз в полтора-два месяца. Зубы и вес — вторая забота: у йорков рано образуется камень, и мелкой собаке легко перебрать калорий. Из наследственного значимы вывих коленной чашечки и коллапс трахеи.

Origin

Выведен в Йоркшире в XIX веке рабочими для ловли крыс на фабриках и в шахтах. За полвека превратился из рабочей собаки в салонную.

Mid-run the dog suddenly holds up a hind leg for a couple of strides, then carries on as if nothing happened. It looks harmless but wears the joint down over time. Excess weight doubles the pace of it.

In small breeds the teeth are crowded, tartar builds early, and teeth are lost by five years old. Look at the gums: redness at the tooth line and bad breath already call for a scale. Brush at home; dry food does not clean teeth, contrary to popular belief.
OccursTear staining
Because of the shape of the face the tear duct drains poorly, so it stays wet under the eyes and the fur stains. Not dangerous in itself, but a wet fold gets sore. Wipe daily; if the tearing suddenly increases or an eye is squinting, that is a vet visit.
