Temperament
Сильная, уверенная и очень привязчивая к человеку собака. Амстафф ориентирован на хозяина сильнее большинства пород и тяжело переносит отчуждение. К людям, включая незнакомых, обычно дружелюбен. К другим собакам, особенно однополым, нетерпим — это порода, которую нельзя оставлять без присмотра в компании чужих собак, сколько бы её ни социализировали.
Care
Шерсть короткая, ухода почти нет. Нужна серьёзная нагрузка и обязательное послушание: собака этой силы должна отзываться на команду безусловно. Мёрзнет зимой. Наследственно значимы дисплазия, кожные аллергии и болезни сердца. В ряде стран и городов порода в списке требующих намордника — уточняйте местные правила.
Origin
Выведен в США из английских стаффордширских бультерьеров, привезённых иммигрантами. Изначально боевая собака, с 1936 года разводится как выставочная и компаньон.

- Watch firstAtopic dermatitis
- Itching without fleas: paws, belly, ears. The dog licks its paws rusty-brown, shakes its head, the ears keep flaring up. Food usually gets the blame while the cause is pollen, dust mites or mould. This is one for a dermatologist, not for changing food at random.
- Keep in mindCruciate ligament rupture
- Sudden lameness on a hind leg after a jump or an awkward turn. The second ligament often goes within a year of the first. Weight and gradual conditioning are the only things that hold it off.
- OccursHip dysplasia
- The puppy sits to one side, struggles to get up after sleeping, runs with a “bunny hop” using both hind legs together. What is in your hands: no excess weight and no jumping down from height while it grows. The puppy’s parents are screened by X-ray — ask the breeder.
