Suits. Активные люди, ездовой спорт, долгие пробежки. Не агрессивна, спокойна к чужим.

Be aware. Худший выбор для охраны и для квартиры без нагрузки. Убегает и не возвращается на зов. Линяет дважды в год лавиной.

Temperament

Хаски — ездовая собака, и это не декоративная деталь. Ей нужно бежать, много и долго; невыгулянный хаски разбирает квартиру. Дружелюбен ко всем, включая воров, — сторожевых качеств нет вовсе. Плохо поддаётся послушанию не от глупости, а потому что порода выведена принимать решения в упряжке самостоятельно. Склонен к побегам и подкопам.

Care

Шерсть с плотным подшёрстком, линька дважды в год обильная — вычёсывать ежедневно в этот период. Стричь нельзя: шерсть защищает и от холода, и от жары. Нужен забор высотой не меньше двух метров с защитой от подкопа. Прогулка — не меньше двух часов в день, с бегом.

Origin

Выведена чукчами как ездовая собака для длинных переходов с небольшим грузом. В начале XX века вывезена на Аляску, где прославилась в гонках и в доставке сыворотки в Ном во время эпидемии дифтерии.

Watch firstPoor heat tolerance
In a Kazakh summer this is the breed’s main risk. Walk early morning and late evening, always carry water, never leave the animal in a car. Signs of overheating: rapid panting with the tongue out, drooling, an unsteady gait. Heatstroke kills in minutes, not hours.
Keep in mindProgressive retinal atrophy
Sight goes gradually, starting at dusk. The animal bumps into furniture in dim light, refuses a dark stairwell, its eyes shine more in the dark. There is no cure, but a blind animal lives a full life as long as you do not move the furniture.
OccursHip dysplasia
The puppy sits to one side, struggles to get up after sleeping, runs with a “bunny hop” using both hind legs together. What is in your hands: no excess weight and no jumping down from height while it grows. The puppy’s parents are screened by X-ray — ask the breeder.
