Temperament
Аусси — рабочая пастушья собака, умная до неудобства. Схватывает команду с двух-трёх повторов и так же быстро учится тому, чему её не учили: открывать двери, доставать еду, требовать внимания. Без задачи начинает пасти всё движущееся, включая детей и велосипедистов. Привязана к семье, к чужим сдержанна.
Care
Шерсть средней длины с подшёрстком: вычёсывать дважды в неделю, в линьку каждый день. Нагрузка — минимум полтора часа в день, и половина её должна быть на голову, а не на ноги. У мраморных линий встречается мутация MDR1: обычные противопаразитарные препараты для такой собаки смертельно опасны, тест обязателен. Вязка двух мраморных запрещена — щенки рождаются глухими и слепыми.
Origin
Вопреки названию выведена в США баскскими пастухами, приехавшими через Австралию. Работала на ранчо Калифорнии, отсюда и рабочий склад характера.

- Watch firstMDR1 mutation: drug sensitivity
- The most practical thing to know about these breeds. Because of the mutation, ordinary doses of some drugs — including some worm and tick treatments — cause severe poisoning. Do the genetic test once and tell every vet the result before anything is prescribed.
- Keep in mindHip dysplasia
- The puppy sits to one side, struggles to get up after sleeping, runs with a “bunny hop” using both hind legs together. What is in your hands: no excess weight and no jumping down from height while it grows. The puppy’s parents are screened by X-ray — ask the breeder.
- OccursIdiopathic epilepsy
- Seizures with no outside cause, usually between six months and five years. During a seizure do not reach into the mouth — that is how people break their own and the animal’s teeth. Time it: a seizure longer than five minutes is an emergency. Film it, that matters more to the vet than your description.
