Suits. Дом, пожилые люди, небольшая квартира. Привязчив и неконфликтен.
Be aware. То же дыхание, что у бульдога, плюс проблемы с глазами и позвоночником. Жару переносит плохо.
Temperament
Спокойный, ласковый и очень контактный компаньон. Мопс не требует нагрузок и легко живёт в квартире, но плохо переносит одиночество — это собака, которая существует ради общества человека. Упрям, к дрессировке равнодушен. Храпит.
Care
Складки на морде протирать и просушивать ежедневно — иначе опрелости и воспаления. Шерсть короткая, но линяет обильно. Глаза крупные и выпуклые, легко травмируются, требуют осмотра. Главная опасность та же, что у всех коротконосых: перегрев. В жару не гулять днём и не оставлять в машине. Склонен к ожирению, порции считать строго.
Origin
Древняя китайская порода, жила при императорском дворе. В Европу попала в XVI веке с голландскими торговцами.
What to watch in this breed

- Snoring, noisy breathing at rest, a bluish tongue, fainting on exercise. This is not “just the breed” and not a cute quirk: the dog is short of air. Excess weight makes breathing worse than anything else, and heat and stuffiness are directly dangerous.
- Watch firstPoor heat tolerance
- In a Kazakh summer this is the breed’s main risk. Walk early morning and late evening, always carry water, never leave the animal in a car. Signs of overheating: rapid panting with the tongue out, drooling, an unsteady gait. Heatstroke kills in minutes, not hours.
- Keep in mindSkin fold dermatitis
- The folds of the face and tail stay damp and get infected: redness, a bad smell, the animal rubbing its face. Prevention is wiping the folds dry regularly, not shampooing them every day.
- Keep in mindLuxating patella
- Mid-run the dog suddenly holds up a hind leg for a couple of strides, then carries on as if nothing happened. It looks harmless but wears the joint down over time. Excess weight doubles the pace of it.
- Keep in mindTeeth
- In small breeds the teeth are crowded, tartar builds early, and teeth are lost by five years old. Look at the gums: redness at the tooth line and bad breath already call for a scale. Brush at home; dry food does not clean teeth, contrary to popular belief.
