Temperament
Один из самых умных и обучаемых псов вообще. Большой пудель схватывает команды быстро, любит работать и охотно занимается спортом. Привязан к семье, к чужим приветлив, конфликтов избегает. Скучающий пудель начинает изобретать себе занятия — обычно шумные.
Care
Шерсть не линяет, но растёт непрерывно и сваливается: расчёсывать через день, стричь каждые полтора-два месяца. Уши висячие, в них растёт шерсть — чистить и выщипывать, иначе отиты. Нагрузка не меньше часа в день плюс занятия головой. Наследственно значимы дисплазия, заворот желудка и болезнь Аддисона; кормить дважды в день, после еды покой.
Origin
Вопреки репутации салонной собаки выведен в Германии и Франции как подружейный ретривер для подачи птицы с воды. Знаменитая стрижка изначально была рабочей: шерсть оставляли на суставах и груди, остальное снимали, чтобы не тянуло в воде.
What to watch in this breed

- Keep in mindHip dysplasia
- The puppy sits to one side, struggles to get up after sleeping, runs with a “bunny hop” using both hind legs together. What is in your hands: no excess weight and no jumping down from height while it grows. The puppy’s parents are screened by X-ray — ask the breeder.
- Keep in mindProgressive retinal atrophy
- Sight goes gradually, starting at dusk. The animal bumps into furniture in dim light, refuses a dark stairwell, its eyes shine more in the dark. There is no cure, but a blind animal lives a full life as long as you do not move the furniture.
- OccursGastric torsion (bloat)
- A lethal emergency in deep-chested breeds: a swollen hard belly, retching that brings nothing up, restlessness, drooling. This is the emergency vet right now, with no “let us wait until morning”. Prevention: feed twice a day in smaller portions and no running straight after a meal.
