Suits. Квартира, мало места, минимум линьки. Привязчива к человеку.
Be aware. Шерсть требует ежедневного расчёсывания или короткой стрижки. Плохо переносит одиночество.
Temperament
Ласковая, привязчивая и очень ориентированная на человека собака. Мальтезе плохо переносит одиночество и ходит за хозяином по квартире. Смела не по размеру, охотно облаивает гостей. Обучается неплохо, но требует последовательности: маленькой собаке слишком часто прощают то, чего не простили бы крупной.
Care
Длинная белая шерсть без подшёрстка не линяет, но сваливается быстро: расчёсывать ежедневно, многие стригут коротко — это разумно. Под глазами шерсть темнеет от слёз, протирать каждый день. Зубы слабое место, камень образуется рано. Наследственно значимы вывих коленной чашечки и коллапс трахеи — на прогулке шлейка, а не ошейник.
Origin
Одна из древнейших декоративных пород Средиземноморья, известна со времён Античности. К острову Мальта отношение имеет скорее по названию.
What to watch in this breed

- Mid-run the dog suddenly holds up a hind leg for a couple of strides, then carries on as if nothing happened. It looks harmless but wears the joint down over time. Excess weight doubles the pace of it.
- Keep in mindTear staining
- Because of the shape of the face the tear duct drains poorly, so it stays wet under the eyes and the fur stains. Not dangerous in itself, but a wet fold gets sore. Wipe daily; if the tearing suddenly increases or an eye is squinting, that is a vet visit.
- Keep in mindTeeth
- In small breeds the teeth are crowded, tartar builds early, and teeth are lost by five years old. Look at the gums: redness at the tooth line and bad breath already call for a scale. Brush at home; dry food does not clean teeth, contrary to popular belief.
