Temperament
Неутомимый, азартный и очень шумный терьер. Джек-рассел требует нагрузки, несопоставимой с его размером: это рабочая охотничья собака, а не карманная. Скучающий джек копает, грызёт и лает. Смел до безрассудства, задирает собак крупнее себя, охотится на всё мелкое и движущееся.
Care
Шерсть короткая или жёсткая, ухода немного; жёсткошёрстным нужен тримминг. Нагрузка — не меньше полутора часов активного движения в день плюс игры на сообразительность. Обязателен поводок в городе: охотничий инстинкт сильнее команды. Порода здоровая, из наследственного значимы вывих коленной чашечки и болезни глаз.
Origin
Выведен английским священником Джоном Расселом в XIX веке для норной охоты на лису. Отбирался только по рабочим качествам, поэтому порода долго не имела единого стандарта внешности.

- OccursLuxating patella
- Mid-run the dog suddenly holds up a hind leg for a couple of strides, then carries on as if nothing happened. It looks harmless but wears the joint down over time. Excess weight doubles the pace of it.
- OccursCongenital deafness
- The puppy does not react to a voice out of its line of sight, sleeps deeply and does not wake at noise. Checked with a BAER test at the breeder. A deaf dog lives normally, but commands are taught by hand signals and it is never let off the lead.
