Be aware. Хрупкость: падение с рук — перелом. Мёрзнет. Без воспитания вырастает трусливым и кусачим.

Temperament

Самая маленькая собака в мире с характером крупной. Смела до безрассудства, облаивает собак любого размера, к чужим настороженна. Сильно привязывается к одному человеку. Ревнива. Плохо переносит бесцеремонное обращение, поэтому маленьким детям не подходит — не потому что опасна, а потому что легко травмируется сама.

Care

Уход за шерстью минимальный. Главное — беречь: кости тонкие, падение с дивана заканчивается переломом. Мёрзнет, зимой нужна одежда. Зубы требуют внимания с молодости: у мелких пород зубной камень и ранняя потеря зубов — правило, а не исключение. Родничок у части собак не зарастает полностью, удары по голове опасны.

Origin

Происходит из Мексики, названа по штату Чиуауа. Предком считается течичи — небольшая собака индейцев тольтеков.

Mid-run the dog suddenly holds up a hind leg for a couple of strides, then carries on as if nothing happened. It looks harmless but wears the joint down over time. Excess weight doubles the pace of it.

In small breeds the teeth are crowded, tartar builds early, and teeth are lost by five years old. Look at the gums: redness at the tooth line and bad breath already call for a scale. Brush at home; dry food does not clean teeth, contrary to popular belief.

A yelp when picked up, a hunched back, wobbly hind legs. This is an emergency: from the moment the legs give out, the clock runs in hours. Prevention is simple and it works — no jumping off the sofa or down stairs, and no extra weight.
