Temperament
Массивный, спокойный и молчаливый охранник. Бульмастиф не склонен к лаю и суете: он выведен задерживать нарушителя, а не облаивать. К семье привязан, с детьми терпелив, к чужим настороженно-сдержан. Требует уверенного хозяина.
Care
Короткая шерсть, ухода почти нет. Складки на морде протирать. Плохо переносит жару из-за укороченной морды. Умеренные спокойные прогулки, рывковых нагрузок избегать. Наследственно значимы дисплазия, заворот желудка и опухоли. Живёт недолго — семь-девять лет.
Origin
Выведен в Англии в XIX веке скрещиванием мастифа с бульдогом: егерям нужна была собака, способная догнать и удержать браконьера, не покалечив.
What to watch in this breed

- Watch firstHip dysplasia
- The puppy sits to one side, struggles to get up after sleeping, runs with a “bunny hop” using both hind legs together. What is in your hands: no excess weight and no jumping down from height while it grows. The puppy’s parents are screened by X-ray — ask the breeder.
- Keep in mindGastric torsion (bloat)
- A lethal emergency in deep-chested breeds: a swollen hard belly, retching that brings nothing up, restlessness, drooling. This is the emergency vet right now, with no “let us wait until morning”. Prevention: feed twice a day in smaller portions and no running straight after a meal.
- Keep in mindBrachycephalic airway syndrome
- Snoring, noisy breathing at rest, a bluish tongue, fainting on exercise. This is not “just the breed” and not a cute quirk: the dog is short of air. Excess weight makes breathing worse than anything else, and heat and stuffiness are directly dangerous.
- Keep in mindPoor heat tolerance
- In a Kazakh summer this is the breed’s main risk. Walk early morning and late evening, always carry water, never leave the animal in a car. Signs of overheating: rapid panting with the tongue out, drooling, an unsteady gait. Heatstroke kills in minutes, not hours.
A predisposition means a probability, not a disease. Most animals of these breeds live their lives without any of it. We do not diagnose: the list is here so you know what to ask your vet at a routine check-up and which signs not to write off as old age.
