Be aware. Ум — не удобство. Без работы начинает пасти детей и грызть дом. Не для тех, кто хочет спокойную собаку.
Temperament
Самая обучаемая порода из существующих — и это главная сложность. Бордер-колли нужна работа, а не прогулка: без задачи собака начинает пасти всё подряд, включая детей и машины, и развивает навязчивые привычки. Для семьи, готовой заниматься спортом или дрессировкой каждый день, лучшей собаки нет. Для спокойного дома порода не подходит совсем.
Care
Шерсть средней длины, вычёсывать два раза в неделю. Нагрузка — не меньше двух часов активности в день, из них значительная часть на обучение. Наследственно значимы дисплазия и глазные болезни колли; у части линий есть мутация MDR1, из-за которой обычные противопаразитарные препараты становятся опасными — тест на неё нужен обязательно.
Origin
Выведена на границе Англии и Шотландии для пастьбы овец. Управляет отарой взглядом, а не лаем. До сих пор рабочая порода: отбор идёт по способности к работе, а не по внешности.
What to watch in this breed

- Watch firstMDR1 mutation: drug sensitivity
- The most practical thing to know about these breeds. Because of the mutation, ordinary doses of some drugs — including some worm and tick treatments — cause severe poisoning. Do the genetic test once and tell every vet the result before anything is prescribed.
- Keep in mindHip dysplasia
- The puppy sits to one side, struggles to get up after sleeping, runs with a “bunny hop” using both hind legs together. What is in your hands: no excess weight and no jumping down from height while it grows. The puppy’s parents are screened by X-ray — ask the breeder.
- OccursIdiopathic epilepsy
- Seizures with no outside cause, usually between six months and five years. During a seizure do not reach into the mouth — that is how people break their own and the animal’s teeth. Time it: a seizure longer than five minutes is an emergency. Film it, that matters more to the vet than your description.
A predisposition means a probability, not a disease. Most animals of these breeds live their lives without any of it. We do not diagnose: the list is here so you know what to ask your vet at a routine check-up and which signs not to write off as old age.
