Suits. Спокоен, добродушен, хорош с детьми, не требует много бега.
Be aware. Длинные уши и складки требуют ухода. Легко набирает вес — при длинной спине это прямой риск.
Temperament
Спокойная, дружелюбная и очень упрямая гончая. Бассет добродушен ко всем, с детьми терпелив, но послушание даётся тяжело: взяв след, он перестаёт слышать. Голос низкий и громкий. Ленив дома, неутомим на прогулке.
Care
Короткая шерсть линяет заметно. Главная забота — уши: самые длинные среди пород, волочатся по земле, не проветриваются, отиты правило. Осматривать и чистить еженедельно, при еде убирать в снуд. Складки на морде протирать. Спина уязвима из-за длинного тела на коротких ногах: прыгать с высоты нельзя, лишний вес недопустим. Наследственно значимы заворот желудка и глаукома.
Origin
Французская по происхождению гончая, доведённая до нынешнего вида в Англии. Работала по кровяному следу пешком — коротконогость позволяла охотнику идти следом.

- A yelp when picked up, a hunched back, wobbly hind legs. This is an emergency: from the moment the legs give out, the clock runs in hours. Prevention is simple and it works — no jumping off the sofa or down stairs, and no extra weight.

- The eyelid rolls inward and the lashes scratch the cornea. Constant watering, a squinting eye, the animal rubbing its face with a paw. It is fixed by surgery; leaving it means a corneal ulcer.
- Keep in mindGastric torsion (bloat)
- A lethal emergency in deep-chested breeds: a swollen hard belly, retching that brings nothing up, restlessness, drooling. This is the emergency vet right now, with no “let us wait until morning”. Prevention: feed twice a day in smaller portions and no running straight after a meal.
