Be aware. Независима, плохо терпит других собак. Обучение требует терпения — команда ради команды ей неинтересна.
Temperament
Сдержанная, независимая и молчаливая собака. Акита не демонстрирует привязанность, но выбирает своего человека раз и навсегда. К чужим равнодушна, к другим собакам, особенно однополым, нетерпима. Дрессировке поддаётся с трудом не от глупости, а от самостоятельности: акита сначала решает, стоит ли.
Care
Плотная двойная шерсть, линька дважды в год очень обильная — вычёсывать ежедневно в этот период. Хорошо переносит холод, плохо жару. Нужен крепкий забор: охотничий инстинкт силён. Наследственно значимы аутоиммунные болезни кожи и заворот желудка.
Origin
Древняя японская порода из префектуры Акита, изначально охотничья — работала по медведю. Знаменита историей Хатико.

- Keep in mindHip dysplasia
- The puppy sits to one side, struggles to get up after sleeping, runs with a “bunny hop” using both hind legs together. What is in your hands: no excess weight and no jumping down from height while it grows. The puppy’s parents are screened by X-ray — ask the breeder.
- Keep in mindHypothyroidism
- The thyroid runs below normal: weight climbs on the same food, the coat dulls and thins symmetrically on the flanks, the dog feels cold and turns sluggish. Easy to blame on age; checked with a blood test and corrected with a tablet.
- OccursEntropion
- The eyelid rolls inward and the lashes scratch the cornea. Constant watering, a squinting eye, the animal rubbing its face with a paw. It is fixed by surgery; leaving it means a corneal ulcer.
