An editorial estimate, not a measurement.

Suits.

Be aware.

Temperament

Care

Origin

What to watch in this breed

Breed predispositions are not a diagnosis and not a sentence. They are what occurs in this breed more often than in others, and what is worth knowing in advance.

Keep in mindHypertrophic cardiomyopathy
The commonest heart disease in cats and the main cause of sudden death. It gives no signs for a long time; the first may be fast breathing at rest or the hind legs suddenly giving out. In this breed heart scans are done on schedule — ask your vet from what age.
Keep in mindPolycystic kidney disease
Cysts in the kidneys that grow silently for years. The first signs are late: the cat drinks and urinates a lot, loses weight. Found by ultrasound and a genetic test — ask the breeder whether the parents were tested.

A predisposition means a probability, not a disease. Most animals of these breeds live their lives without any of it. We do not diagnose: the list is here so you know what to ask your vet at a routine check-up and which signs not to write off as old age.

Weight and lifespan are a guide for the breed, not a standard for your animal. Actual figures depend on the line, care and health.
