Lost pet: what to do in the first hours
The first hours matter most: your pet is still close, and people nearby remember what they saw. Act on every front at once.
- Search the neighbourhood. Dogs often don't run far; cats hide close by — in basements, stairwells, under cars. Call in a familiar voice and bring a favourite treat.
- Post a listing here. A recent photo, the area where your pet went missing, and your phone number. It is published immediately, without review.
- Post in neighbourhood chats and your city's lost pet groups. The listing link is easy to share.
- Call vet clinics and shelters nearby: found animals are often brought there.
- If your pet is microchipped, give the chip number to clinics and shelters: they scan for it during an examination.
- Put up flyers at entrances, shops and bus stops. A large photo and your phone, no home address.
- Watch out for scammers. Don't send money "for the return" until you have seen your pet in person or on a fresh video.
